Top places to go with pre-schooler kids in Melbourne

When the big kids are away (at school), the little kids will play.

Do you have an adventurous pre-schooler? If they’ve thrown your nice cushions on the floor one too many times, you need to get outta the house. Immediately. Melbourne is your oyster when it comes to places to take kids to burn off their endless amounts of energy. If you’ve exhausted the usual list of Zoo, Museum & Aquarium, here’s 6 places that both you and your pre-schooler will enjoy. They’re all indoor activities so that Melbourne’s moody weather doesn’t rain on your parade (or plans).

This post is kindly sponsored by Things for kids and written by Motherhood Melbourne.

I used the nifty online directory Things for kids, to discover and share 6 awesome indoor activities in Melbourne. Pop in your postcode to discover more local parks, playcentres and activities. Never be stuck at home again! #savetheprettycushions

1. Rabbit Hole Playcentre (Braybrook)

Prepare for your jaw to drop as you step inside this modern playcentre. HUUUGE is an understatement. Let your pre-schooler’s imagination run wild as they explore the different worlds inside this wonderland. They also serve a decent drop of coffee & Insta-worthy brunch treats.

2. O'Brien Group Arena (Docklands)

Get your ice-skates on and introduce your little one to this winter activity. They’ll think you’re so cool (get it? #mumjoke). Pop along to a ‘Young’un Under 8 skating’ sesh where there’s games, toys and snow-play areas.

3. Little Creatures (Balwyn)

This place is what little kid’s dreams are made of. It has fun play spaces like a fire station, supermarket, builder’s workshop and soft mat zone. The most loved area is the costume room. Your child will be so distracted with this fun environment, you’ll be able to drink a hot coffee without hearing “Muuuuum” 27 times.

4. Funtopia Maribyrnong (Maidstone)

The name of this place, didn’t happen by accident. You’re in for a funbelievable time at one of Australia’s BIGGEST playcentres. Enjoy two different worlds – Climbing world and Playground world. Climbing world has 40 interactive walls and a giant beanstalk to tackle. Whereas Playground world has five levels of fun, including ten slides and a car track.

5. Latitude (Heidleberg)

This is an indoor aerial super park. Watch them bounce, climb & fly in the designated Kid Zone for under 5’s. Your little tacker can bounce off their energy in the supersized soft play area. If your pelvic floor muscles aren’t quite bounce-friendly, hang out at the café.

6. The Messy Shed (Mornington)

Get messy the right way – somewhere that’s not your house! The Messy Shed hosts sensory play sessions that encourage kids to enjoy the creative process. They keep it exciting with new messy themes each week. Leave the designer thread at home and let kids be kids.
