Macedon Ranges mum creating something special for families

Aimee's Visual Arts

Macedon Ranges mum has three creative loves – drawing, painting and photography. Whilst Aimee Timpson loves getting her hands dirty with charcoal and acrylics, she's fallen head over heels for a more modern approach. Aimee has embraced digital art and now creates many custom pieces using her iPad. This allows her to explore new styles and collaborate more fluidly with her clients. In this interview, Aimee takes you behind the scenes of her passion and now business – Aimee's Visual Arts.

HOOD MAMA SPECIAL – Free postage on custom drawings and 10% off when you order more than one drawing. Join the hood to grab the code. Valid until 31st December 2017.

Aimee's Visual Arts

An interview with Aimee – owner of Aimee's Visual Arts.

1.Why did you create Aimee's Visual Arts?

I have a pilot for a husband, that works strange shifts. Two special needs kids. This is my outlet. I enjoy creating so it's not really a job or a business but more a passion.

2. How did it all begin?

I started Art right after high school and then got led away by the need of money… Money doesn't buy happiness so my new husband suggested I did something for me. I joined Photography College in Melbourne and since then I have been tinkering away. The kids are getting closer to school age and I don't want to go back to an office job so I just started drawing and people started to like my drawings.

3. How does your art make mother’s lives easier, better or brighter?

It's a memory captured. I have a drawing on my wall and I find art makes me smile. I have had a number of mums contact me lately for family gifts and they are delighted to give a gift that really means something.

4. How does it make you feel when someone asks you to create something for them?

Really really happy. It's never about the money (all though it helps) but I LOVE to work and create with someone. When I am working I don't stop contacting the client and making sure they are happy. My art is very much their art as well.

Special Little Moments

5. What is your most popular request?

Custom drawings. From dogs to children, to grieving family members.

6. What’s the most common frequently-asked-question you get asked?

If I can do it and if I am happy to help. It's a bit surprising because when I am asked I am more excited that you just want me to draw for you. It means someone likes what I am doing.

7. Describe one thing mamas would be surprised about from behind-the-scenes.

My drawings don't take that long and are all done on the iPad. It's not an image adjusted in Photoshop to look like a drawing. I really draw what people are asking for with a stylus.

Special Little Moments

8. What aspect about your biz do you love the most?

I love to draw and that people love my drawings. With my iPad I can draw anywhere, with any colour and any style.

9. When you’re not in business mode, what do you love to do?

I then draw for me.

10. Any exciting future plans?

I am going to attempt a market. I am not sure how to display my custom drawings. I think I might be worried because I have been dreaming about it for so long.
